Welcome to Project Linus of Charles County, MD
First, to provide love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “Blanketeers.”
Second, to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
Collecting for TAPS - 1,200 Blankets Needed! Deadline is May 11 for Our Chapter's Donations.
Project Linus of Charles County, MD (PLCC), has been collecting blankets for children of all ages with patriotic themes or colors (like camo [including pink camo for girls] -- a favorite!) to donate to Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS www.taps.org). The Good Grief Camp is a program for children who have lost a loved one who served in the Armed Forces. During Memorial Day weekend, these children share and learn coping skills through games, crafts, and other activities in a fun, supportive environment.
To help them through this time of loss, Project Linus provides blankets for each child to hold and cherish in memory of their lost loved one. Per Karissa Kelly, Deputy of the TAPS Youth Programs, the children attending the camp now anticipate getting a Project Linus blanket when they arrive at Camp Good Grief and make sure they have room in their luggage to take one home! Fleece and quilts are the most popular. In 2018 they need 1,200 blankets this year for ages 4-18 years (child to teen size blankets). Blankets are sent to Washington, DC, from Project Linus Chapters all over the country! Deadline for donations are on or before our PLCC meeting on Friday, May 11, 2018. Have questions?
