Welcome to Project Linus of Charles County, MD
First, to provide love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “Blanketeers.”
Second, to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
Year in Review
Despite the difficulties of 2020, our blanketeers have been amazing! We distributed a total of 1,962 blankets to children -- hospitals received 662 blankets (or 34 percent) and social service agencies received 1,300 blankets (or 66 percent).
In 2020 we also received 1,429 yards of fabric and 88 skeins of yarn that were distributed to our most active blanketeers to turn into Project Linus blankets. We had 6 blanketeers register for Project Linus knit and crochet tutorial last spring and another 22 blanketeers register in the summer for the annual Mystery Quilt “Lucy’s Love Notes” -- both are major fundraisers for our local chapter, sponsored by Project Linus HQ, and offer fun, easy-to-follow patterns / tutorials for novices and experienced individuals.
Unfortunately we are not able to host our annual Make A Blanket Day in February. This does not mean we can’t find an opportunity to meet virtually to share what we plan to donate before the 3rd week in February.
Hoping 2021 provides us with new ideas on how best to serve the children we support and promote community participation. ~ Karen Huffman, Coordinator
